About DB Reiff

Listening has always been a way of life with me -- from my love of music and the sounds of nature to listening to how people communicate.  My passion is for helping people have productive conversations, especially when it's not easy, so that life and work can be more creative and fulfilling.

As a classical guitarist at Boston Conservatory of Music, I developed the “listening to many voices” skills that now serve me as a facilitator,
coach, trainer, mediator, and ombudsman.

After earning my MBA at Simmons School of Management, I started my business career at what is now Verizon just as new phone companies were jockeying for dominance in the marketplace and people and departments were doing the same inside the company.

That was my first lesson in the cost of conflict.  And, as a member of the Massachusetts Diversity Team, I saw just how difficult it is for people to talk about race and gender differences.

Twenty-five years later I still see conflict bringing progress to a crawl.  And few people have the know-how or courage to wade into conflict, especially when diversity is part of the mix.

Recently, as Director of Client Services at Framingham Mediation, I mediated and coached mediators on every type of conflict from the workplace to business agreements to families disputes.  I facilitated a contentious town meeting with angry residents.  And I trained adult, and high-school and middle school peer mediators, work I believe can change the world.

Certified in Facilitative Leadership©, I am also a trainer and consultant for Interaction Institute for Social Change (interactioninstitute.org). Along with training, I facilitate multistakeholder meetings for the public and not-for-profit sectors.

Giving Back is another passion. As president of the Board of Directors of RESPOND, an organization that serves battered women and their children, I brought my communications work into a critical service. I coached the executive director on difficult personnel issues and chaired the diversity council through contentious issues.
I also served as chair of communications on the Simmons School of Management Alumnae Board of Directors.

I have worked with employees at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Camp Dresser McKee, Amerada Hess, Dow AgroSciences, Fleet Bank, SoftServe, Inc., Lexecon Consulting, Interaction Institute for Social Change, Simmons School of Management and United Way of RI.
